AI-assisted SAP integration development: what helps and what still needs people
AI can shorten the time it takes to deliver SAP integrations, but only when it is used with clear guardrails. This is how we think about it: let AI do the repetitive work, and keep experienced engineers in charge of design, review and sign-off.
Where AI helps most
Analysis of existing interfaces
Reading legacy mappings, scripts and configuration to summarize what an interface actually does is slow by hand. AI can produce a first-pass summary and highlight unusual logic for an engineer to confirm.
Scaffolding code and mappings
Drafting Groovy scripts, XSLT or mapping logic from a clear specification saves time on boilerplate. The draft is a starting point, never the final answer.
Test case generation
AI can propose test cases from a specification, including edge cases people forget: empty fields, large payloads, special characters and error responses.
Documentation
Turning a finished iFlow and its notes into readable interface documentation, diagrams descriptions and runbooks is well suited to AI, followed by human review for accuracy.
What stays with people
- Architecture and design decisions, including security, scalability and error handling.
- Review of every generated artifact against your standards before it is used.
- Testing in real systems, with realistic data and sign-off from business owners.
- Accountability for production behaviour.
Guardrails we apply
- Data protection: no production payloads, credentials or personal data are shared with AI tools unless the client has approved the tool and the data handling.
- Human review: a named engineer reviews and takes responsibility for each deliverable.
- Standards: generated code must follow the same naming, logging and error-handling patterns as hand-written code.
- Evidence: automated and manual test results are kept with the documentation.
Our principle. Faster delivery is only valuable if the result is accurate and supportable. AI accelerates the work, and engineering discipline makes it dependable.
